By definition, zeal is:

-great energy

-intense enthusiasm

-passion toward a person, or goal.

Zeal in the Bible is:

-fervent (intense) enthusiasm

-wholehearted devotion

-energetic commitment

However, zeal can go awry, if misdirected.

Paul writes: “They have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge” (Romans 10:2).

True zeal, pairs passion with biblical truth and love, not ignorance or harm.

Romans 12:11 states: “Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord.”

Paul’s telling us believers: Don’t ever slack off in your passion, but stay fired up in the Spirit, and pour that energy into serving the Lord, faithfully.

Jesus modeled perfect zeal, passionate for God’s honor and purity.

Lastly, Titus 2:14: Jesus “gave himself for us… to purify for himself; a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.

Redemption fuels zeal for righteous living.

Special Shoutout:

Today, my shoutout goes out to my mom.  She raised 3 boys, while working full time as a Spanish teacher.  She instilled values in us, that we carry out today.  My mom made all of our school events, and continues to make as many events as she can, for all her grandchildren.  She still works, after retiring from teaching.

Thank you, mom!
